How to face the Metacrisis

Embodying Musclemonk Day 178

Only me – Only Musclemonk knows what to do to face this Metacrisis: Biomechanical Enlightenment

Learn how to save the world with muscle. Learn how to activate the body’s five major bony synapses.

The bony synapses are complex sensory motor fields organized in arrays of bones, muscles, the powerful fascial tissues, nerves, organs and sensitive skin. These are the pits or concavities of the body, areas well hidden from the outside world but not hidden to us.

These are the most active and aware areas of the body both in terms of muscular motion and diverse sensory systems. These are major skeletal intersections and rich sensory baskets full of diverse organs of awareness.
Because these structures are self organizing then we can think of them as self-aware. In other words they are intentional and predictive. They represent another “I” which we possess in our innermost self. This proprio-ceptive sense of innermost self awareness provides the active integrative insight that we need in order to face the Metacrisis. It is actively balancing and centering and grounding and stabilizing. To provides a rich metastable foundation for cognitive functions like pattern recognition and insight.

The system is hidden from the outside world because that is its identity. It is maximally self -referential. It is a self-aware system that Sherrington named very carefully proprio-caption.
He named many of the concepts in neurophysiology we take for granted today, including proprio-ception, which he intentionally hyphenated. He did not use a – to indicate that it is some sort of a fake or made up word. He used hyphenation to emphasize the muscular act of integration that is actively occurring in the named system within our bodies.

Sherrington named the synapse only after years of consideration and consultation with several colleagues. Foster suggested the word junction but Sharrington knew that it was important to emphasize the active function of what was being named. For this reason with the advice of a classical scholar he chose the name synapse. The syn is integrative but the Latin root -apse is shared in words like haptic and grasp, “like wrestling”. Why is this active aspect so important? It is because that indicates the system is alive and aware. Why are these two pieces so important? Syn-apse literally translates as Integrative Action. This is how we describe the basic organization of the nervous system: through synapses. This then is the area of muscle sense and muscle tone. This is a haptic perceptual system, an important compliment to the conventional perceptual system of the surface that we are so familiar with: exteroception.

It is only the fascial revolution that has the allowed us to see the bony synapses of our structure. This is the structure of proprioception and of the core of the body. Because it is a haptic system it is one that is easy to feel even though it is our innermost system.

I am renaming these junctures bony synapse, like a handshake.
